LIVELIHOOD AND DEVELOPMENT

Since, a livelihood improvement and community developments is the key to create incentives for communities to participate in conservation, Baghmara Bufferzone Community Forest User Group's fund is invested in various community development and conservation related activities. Moreover, Baghmara hires forest specialist to inspect reforestation, wildlife habitat restoration and the overall health of forest ecosystem.

The available budget and revenue collected through tourism and other activities is allocated to provide benefits to the local people and biodiversity conservation initiatives. There are continuous development works which enhance the capacity of forest users.  The existing  activities are mainly, compensation on wildlife damages, repair and construction of roads, bridge and school building, fencing, renovation of cultural heritage sites, establishment, distribution of improved cooking stoves, income generation activities for women, poor and marginalized groups,  river dam construction, solar electricity subsidy, toilet installation subsidy, medical bill reimbursement, willdife accident insurance,  scholarship, irrigation, nursery establishment for poor people, inclusion of conservation and management curricula in school, exposure/study visit and many more.

Similarly, as an effort for poverty alleviation and employment generation, a fish pond was built by the group for 35 households (mainly Mushahars) within the group characterized as poor households.
